We know that the new version of Unit Linked Insurance Plans (Ulips) offered by life insurance companies after September last year are more investor-friendly. First, they can't be mis-sold as a short-term investment product anymore, as the minimum lock-in period has risen to five years from three earlier. Second, after the rationalisation of charges, they offer better returns. However, the minimum premium payable under most new Ulips has increased.
